I have my brushcutter accelerating by itself, what should I do?

A brushcutter that accelerates on its own prevents you from working in optimal conditions. The origin of the problem may lie with the carburetor itself, the cruise control, the fuel or air filter. In order to eliminate the various possible causes gradually, it is necessary to follow the steps one by one of this guide, going from the simplest and most common solution, to the most complex solution. In all cases, it is important to carry out these checks with your brush cutter turned off.

Cleaning your brushcutter that speeds up on its own

Cleaning the air filter

The first item to check is to look at the air filter. It is an essential part of your brush cutter because it regulates the flow of air entering the engine. Air circulation combined with gasoline, allows to obtain an engine speed according to the desired power. But if unfortunately the air filter is clogged, it can experience different engine speeds resulting in slowing down or acceleration of the engine. If you are in this situation, you just need to clean it with hot water and liquid detergent. With a clean cloth, wring out the foam air filter so that it is completely dry. However if the filter is torn, it will be necessary to consider replacing it.

Cleaning the carburetor

The carburetor plays an essential role for the proper functioning of your tools. It directly controls the incoming air flow as well as the fuel injection to keep your engine running properly. Like the air filter, it can be clogged causing faulty engine speed. It is advisable to start cleaning the exterior of the carburetor to check if the problem still persists. If this is still the case, it will have to be completely disassembled to clean the various parts and check that there are no plugs inside the carburetor.

Insist on the cleaning of the jets using a nylon fishing line or directly a blower. Above all, do not use a metal wire which might damage the nozzle.

Also, don't forget to clean the fuel filter in the carburetor by also using a blower on it. A brush cutter who smokes may also show a problem with the carburetor.

A brush cutter that accelerates on its own because of the speed control

When the engine accelerates without you accelerating, the speed adjustment screw may not be positioned correctly. Thereby, engine will tend to get carried away unnecessarily. To remedy this problem, just look near the carburetor to find out where this screw is. Refer directly to your manual to find out exactly where it is and you just need to turn it one way or the other to verify that unwanted acceleration no longer occurs.

A brushcutter that accelerates on its own due to bad fuel

All fuels are not the same and not the same octane number, if you have made a mixture yourself with a fuel stabilizer, it is possible that the whole is not homogeneous which can explain these different symptoms. To check this, all you have to do is completely empty your gas tank and fill it with clean, completely homogeneous gasoline, which will allow you to see if uncontrolled accelerations are still occurring.

Check the correct configuration of the speed regulator.

Some brush cutters have an adjustment directly by the regulator access, but this being highly sensitive, the brush cutter accelerates on its own. In order to change the engine speed, you must unscrew the nut located on the arm on the shaft of the regulator. The axle must be turned to the right as far as it will go while maintaining the lever in its initial position with the throttle lever open at minimum. All you have to do is turn the nut slightly and don't forget that it is intended to be particularly sensitive, a few degrees will suffice to lower or increase the engine speed.
